Overview

SCCI is seeking a successful candidate to be a Technical Writer and Editor for a fast-paced developmental Weapon System program.  As a Technical Writer and Editor, you will be responsible for developing and/or editing Engineering Documents, System Documents, Technical Manuals, as well as User/Operator Documentation and Training. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Technical Writing:
    • Responsible for the development of new User Documents, requiring an in-depth understanding of the technical content, and an ability to communicate that knowledge to a variety of audiences via several approaches:
      • Procedures (e.g. Installation, Testing, Operation)
      • System and Component Behavior Descriptions (e.g. User’s Manual and Engineering Documentation System Descriptions, Training Curriculum)
      • Graphics (e.g. Flow charts, Connection Diagrams)
    • Responsible for learning the technical content of system upgrades and enhancements (prior to system release) via several pathways, including participating in engineering discussions, supporting local test events, and obtaining details from subject matter experts and system developers.
    • Requires initiative and a self-starting approach, to remain on the cutting edge of system capabilities in advance of system delivery to the fleet.
  • Technical Editing:
    • Responsible for providing an editorial / quality check of Engineering and other Technical documents developed by team members.
    • Requires attention to detail in the polishing stages of a document for: content, formatting, consistency, and grammar.
    • Plays a key role in the Configuration Management (CM) process of all documentation, ensuring that required Documents and Revisions are provided with every System/Software delivery, and that changes are tracked appropriately through the CM process.

Qualifications

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and have a minimum of an ACTIVE SECURITY CLEARANCE.
  • BS in a technical field or BS/BA in a non-technical field with demonstrated technical writing/communication skills. Years of experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's degree.
  • 2-5 years of Technical Editing / Writing experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to grasp and communicate complex technical content.
  • Strong background using Microsoft Office products (Word, Visio, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience developing and applying MS Word styles and templates.
  • Familiarity with version control and Configuration Management principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to write clear, logically sequenced, and grammatically-correct documents.

 

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience with technical editing / writing for DoD systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of technical writing principles and practices, and demonstrated experience preparing technical documentation.
  • Experience with DOD System Development and Acquisition Processes.
