Overview

Southeastern Computer Consultants, Incorporated (SCCI) is seeking a Technical Writer to provide technical writing support for Interactive Electronic Technical Manual (IETM) products. This position is immediately available and located in Austin, Texas.

Responsibilities

The Technical Writer will:

  • Write technical documentation and operational procedures for a web-based IETM which is integrated in a complex software system
  • Manage multiple content files and effectively resolve issues
  • Perform peer reviews and provide constructive feedback
  • Follow defined style guide standards, as well as DoD standards
  • Collaborate with other technical writers, Subject Matter Experts (SME), and Quality Assurance (QA) to ensure accurate technical content
  • Utilize a web-based project management and issue tracking tool
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of documentation tools, standards, and processes

Qualifications

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen and be able to successfully pass a background investigation
  • Bachelor's degree in English, technical communication, technical writing, or other related field and 3-5 years of experience; or an advanced degree in English, technical communication, technical writing, or other related field and 2 years of experience editing user-facing technical documentation and/or instruction
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write in explanatory and procedural styles
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word
  • Experience working with mark-up and browser-based presentation technologies such as DITA, XML, and HTML
  • Ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines

Preferred Skills and Experience: 

  • Experience developing technical manuals and/or interactive courseware for the United States Department of Defense
  • Experience working in a story-driven tasking environment (Agile)
  • Experience using Altova Authentic, or other XML-based authoring tool
  • Experience creating and maintaining content style guides
  • Experience supporting military or government documentation standards
