Overview

SCCI is seeking mid and senior level Software Application Engineers to join our Weapon Control System Support Program in Dahlgren, VA. The successful candidate will be a key member of a high-performing DOD aquisition team.

 

Responsibilities

The Software Application Engineer will:

 

  • Develop tactical code in support of the Gun Computer System (GCS) for the MK 160 GWS.
  • Work independently and with a small team to develop and maintain code for new software applications and capabilities, as well as system updates and enhancements.
  • Address system requirements through the development of software-level requirements, design, and code.
  • Design, develop, evaluate, and maintain software design documentation as-needed.
  • Coordinate with Systems Engineering, Training and Test teams, through a variety of processes, to ensure that software meets end-user and sponsor requirements.
  • Support Configuration Management processes, including Configuration and Review Boards.
  • Provide troubleshooting expertise and drive resolution for all issues in Developer and Test environments, and other environments on an as-needed basis.
  • Support team relationships and coordinate work efforts across various locations.

Qualifications

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and be able to successfully pass a background investigation.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Math, Engineering or related field; or comparable experience.
  • 3+ years of software development experience for Mid-level candidates; 10+ years of software development experience for Senior-level candidates in a comparable environment.
  • Experience with Linux, ADA, C++, Java, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.
  • Understanding of the software development lifecycle including gathering requirements, software design, implementation, documentation, configuration management, test and support.
  • Familiar with unit testing strategies and software development tools.
  • Experience with agile and waterfall software development processes.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Strong organizational skills, understanding of process development and execution, and execution to a schedule.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • 1+ yr of experience using Git, TRAC, Subversion (or similar tools such as SVN or Redmine).
  • 4+ years of experience in information systems operations environment in systems analysis or development.
  • 2+ years of experience using scripting and analysis tools: Lua, Python, Octave, Sage, CMake, Eclipse.
  • Experience supporting Department of Defense (or related) programs.
  • Experience with the DOD Acquisition lifecycle.
